Pediatric Dentistry
When your child first visits the dentist, it can be a anxiety-provoking experiencing. Some kids are shy. Some parents have anxiety about the dentist and may inadvertently share that with their children. We want your experience to be comforting and reassuring! From the words and language that we use, to our tone of voice, to the way that we decorate the office, we do our best to make sure your child's first visit is as enjoyable as possible!
When should my child visit the dentist?
It's important for children to visit the dentist six months after their first tooth erupts or by the time the child turns one year of age. This is the recommendation of most professional dental associations and it's our recommendation, too!
Caring for Your Child's New Teeth
It can take a few years (from the age of about six months until about three years) for all of your child's baby (or primary) teeth to fully erupt. During that time, your child's gums may feel tender so it's a good idea to use a cool cloth or children's pain killers to help dull some of this pain. Help your child develop healthy hygiene habits for their new teeth by making brushing fun and entertaining. Help them remember to brush after eating and before bed. When appropriate – talk to your dentist to know exactly when – help them learn about flossing and how that can help their teeth, too!
Sugary food and drink can lead to the production of harmful acid and bacteria. Limit your child's sugar intake!
Prevent Cavities and Have Checkups Regularly!
Be sure to regularly inspect your child's teeth. We usually recommend about once ever two weeks. And, be sure to schedule regularly appointments with your dentist. If you ever are worried about or see signs of decay, contact us immediately.
